The Religious Education Program at Our Lady of Mount Carmel strives to provide its children with well-rounded formation in knowledge of faith, values, morals, prayer, liturgy, community life, charity, and justice in age-appropriate ways. It is rooted in the teachings of Jesus, Sacred Tradition, and the action of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives.
Religious Education is a continuous 12-year program. Children normally enter Level 1 when they are six years old and transition to Youth Ministry when they enter high school. Each year builds on the previous one, enabling the children to build a strong Christian foundation of faith and character as they deepen their knowledge and love of God. At the same time, they grow in awareness of and in gratitude for God’s love for themselves and all people; indeed, that we are all called to respect and welcome one another in community as children of God.
We desire to work in cooperation and collaboration with parents, who are their children’s first teachers and primary role models. To aid in this process, the Religious Education Program offers unique opportunities for Family Catechesis during the course of the year.
